Difficulties in Finding a New Income Opportunity

Many people will come across this web site and others like it trying to find ideas for new businesses or income opportunities. There is a massive market in work at home opportunities, internet marketing programmes and seemingly easy ways to make money – online or otherwise!

Take the example of affiliate marketing (using the internet to market products for others and thereby obtaining a commission) – this is frequently touted as being the best way to may your fortune. You can give up your day job and work from home if you diligently follow a program provided by one of the many internet “gurus” who apparently have made $millions from just this.

It always struck me as odd why so many people should give up their lucrative time to become teachers? One or two may have altruistic tendencies but so many…if the internet was so rewarding I would be doing more of the same to make money…not telling others how to do it.

There is no doubt that some do make good money and others see a better way in selling a program “how to..” A friend that I know has been heavily involved in internet marketing for over three years now and I believe that he makes a modest income now – also promoting very real products as a marketeer in addition to earning commissions as a simple affiliate.  I was interested when a couple of years ago he put up for sale all the internet marketing programs that he had subscribed to learning his trade. There was over $30,000 worth of products on offer as a job lot. The photograph showed neat packs of DVDs and manuals for dozens of program he had tried!

If the truth be known, he has settled down now selling a product using internet methods and is earning a good return. The “secret” techniques were no so secret – everybody seemed to know how to get a web site to rank for particular keywords. Yes, there are ways to fine tune this approach, but the basics are easy to pick up – many internet sites provide free advice how to find a valuable key word, build a suitable web site and optimize it for the search engines. At the end of the day it is hard work, research, diligence and application of a sensible approach that will bring results.

Earning super profits needs skill and entrepreneurship, not something everybody can easily do. However, many people seeking a new income opportunity are looking for just that, an easy way to make super profits. Very often they want to replace a boring and hard working day job with easy riches. This is the wrong approach. As was seen with the internet marketing example, you give up one day job for another – albeit one you have chosen so that you can work from home. You can make money from many of the income opportunities you find from browsing, but you need to treat everyone as a proper job or business – putting in the time and very often having to make an investment.

The advice from business opportunity market is to research, research, research. You need to clear the rubbish from the few good ideas out there. When you do this you will distill the different income opportunities to just a few and see that each one, though there may be hundreds or thousands of variations and seemingly different ways of making huge sums of money, will all boil down to a few methods which need to be applied rigorously and sometimes a little creatively to make them work. For example:

  • Internet marketing – whatever you are selling your own product or somebody else’s, or pursuing pay per click revenues from Adsense, you must be able to set up a web site and encourage a lot of traffic to visit it. This means understanding the value of keywords, using them to build web sites and learning how to optimise the web site using back linking techniques. These take time, effort and often money. The more organised and slick you work, the better return you make. To make “megabucks” you will employ webmasters, employ content writers, pay for back-links and optimisation. You will be managing an business like any other with staff and other overheads. By now you will be in more expensive offices rather than working from home.
  • Import Export – often gets a bad press as being another waste of time income opportunity being sold in the form of a “get rich quick” program. However, international trade is what makes the world go round and most of the global millionaires will be involved in some way or another – whether you are a billionaire arms dealer, an oil trader or import shiploads of containers from China to the USA or Europe. Sourcing products and finding buyers are key shills in the employed marketplace and having a go from a home business is as good a starting point as any. It is not difficult finding products to sell – it requires hard work and skill to get one that will make you a lot of money.

The difficulty in finding a new income opportunity is getting past all the money making hype you will find and understanding the simple ideas behind any business. Then you have to decide whether or not the business will suit you and your skills. If it does you have a lot more focused research to do and then, and only then, you might be in a position to invest some money into the best training program, agency or consultant (or but trade journals, books, memberships etc) to further build up your knowledge of your new business.

The global recession has caused financial problems not only to companies, but also to ordinary people. People are in desperate need of money and taking out a loan can be nearly impossible if you don’t have a job. The need for small loans is increasing, but still, giving out loans to unemployed people is seen as too big a risk. The credit companies still categorize peoples ability pay out their loans by their job status. But as we all know that there are a lot of people who have jobs and can’t pay out their loans and a lot of people without jobs or with low income who manage to keep their finances in order.

When talking about business ideas most financial gurus think that there is no more room for new ideas in the credit sector. All sorts of loans are now available for the public. Still loans for the unemployed are not available or are not easy to get. Credit companies think that the risks are too big, but they are still happy to give out credit cards to shopaholics. Giving out small loans for the unemployed could give the credit companies the opportunity to make the terms of the loan better suited for their needs. It would increase their profits and the probability of people paying back their loans.

Still, taking out the loan should be made as easy as possible. Giving out loans online could be the answer. Today taking out unsecured loans for unemployed with no phone calls is almost impossible as most companies don’t usually give out loans online or without a personal visit to the bank. Maybe that is something that credit companies should look into. Small unsecured online loans could be the next big thing in the credit business. The risks are the same as with credit cards, but it can cost far less for the credit company as there is only one transaction instead of many. Transactions between different banks and accounts can cost a lot to a businesses.

Setup a Shop or eBay Business Easily

Anyone thinking about starting an eBay home business or even a real physical shop should consider some key factors which are important in order to succeed, and we’ll go through the key rules you should know when attempting such a project.

First of all, you should always know what it is you are selling, and whether it is by hobby or by work that you know of it, you should be conscious of all the information that there is to this product, and research it well before attempting to sell it, because nobody wants to buy from an incompetent seller, neither on eBay, nor anywhere else.

Even after you get better and better in selling you will continue to make some mistakes, and this is very good for you because it allows you to learn how to make it better. Trying out new markets is good after this logic, but only after you have built yourself a sustainable income with the things you know.

Another important thing if you’re serious about your project is to have some capital. The current economic state of the world is rather underwhelming and interest rates still fluctuate, so best would be if you had all the money you need to start ready somewhere so that you don’t need to borrow.

Whatever you want to sell, be it new or used, will cost you fees on eBay, so you want to have that money ready in case they don’t sell and you will still have to get the money from somewhere to pay these fees, or eBay will delete your account.

Be aware of the fact that the amount you get for products on eBay is not all your profit. Subtract the money you spent to get them, the shipping cost and listing fees and then you know how much money you are making! Organizing your finances based on wrong numbers can leave you broke in a few months! It is important to know with what calculations to buy and sell on eBay!

Consider exactly how much money you need to live, food, postage, gaz and so on all add up to something you should keep in mind while planning your business.

If you have to pay attention to money because you are on a very tight budget, reinvest all the profit from your first auctions in your business so you can start faster.

Consider well if you want to start your eBay items at $1 or more, because there are very contrary opinions on this. New items will get sold at higher starting prices, too, but old used products should start at $1 in order to sell them at all.

It is crucial to know how to communicate effectively with your buyers because building business relationships is very important in this online marketplace where nobody ever really sees your face, so be sure to be friendly and interact with your buyers in order to gain their trust. Once somebody bought from you it is very likely that he will shop with you again if everything went fine with the first transaction.

As with any other business you need to be conscious before you start out that there will be losses at the beginning, that you will make mistakes and that some customers will be unsatisfied. You should of course try to correct these problems, but don’t be discouraged by them because they are a common occurrence for everybody starting out on eBay. You should in delicate cases always offer a monetary refund or a replacement of an item because bad feedback on eBay can kill your business very easily.

Lastly, accept change. If there are problems, do something until they’re gone, and don’t be afraid of trying new things.

Attending International Trade Shows

International trade shows are held all over the world. The trade shows were first created to bring the biggest and the best companies to one central location. They can often be expensive to participate in as a seller due to their popularity with major companies and worldwide sellers, the high number of participants expected, and the large amount of exposure that can be obtained.

The sellers that take part in these shows will range from country to country but are always focused around the product or range of products that is the theme for the show. For instance the trade show may be held in Japan but the countries that take part can range from the United Kingdom to Finland – the only thing they have in common is the conference topic.

These international trade shows can vary in theme considerably. They can be for food to clothes and from toys to inventions. There are international trade shows all around the world, which deal with many topics and can prove to be very profitable for any seller or service provider.  The trade show exhibit design you’ll see at these larger events are amazing – with some displays that cost £100,000 or more to design and build.

If looking to take part in an international trade show always take great care in checking the prices that are advertised for taking a stand. The prices may only be for the space and other prices may be added later. Always check the size of the area which you are allocated, because doing this will ensure that you can prepare before hand for your space and you’ll be ready to best utilize your area.

When looking at an international trade show another key point, which must be taken into consideration, is the location. The location of the trade show can prove to be a key factor in the selling of the product as well as the cost to set up at the event such as flight, accommodations, and other expenses. This can also have an impact on the sort of visitors you can expect to your stand.

Trade shows can be a very effective way to spread the word about your product, service, or company.  Having a custom booth and a plan to maximize your participation is key!  Click here to learn more about trade shows, exhibits, displays, and more!

A Catchy Business Name-Keep This In Mind

If you are contemplating starting a new business, the name or brand that you are about to establish is one of the most critical decisions regarding your enterprise that you will ever make. Once chosen, it is difficult or impossible to change, and the eventual success or failure of all of the effort, time and money that you pour into your business will be at least partially determined by how memorable or catchy your business name is to new customers.

You have a lot more help than you used to in dreaming up interesting new names. Maybe you’ve heard of random name generators, available for free on the Internet, that arbitrarily mix words in ways that might eventually be suitable for a new business (or a new product). Sometimes you can choose the subject around which your business is built to increase the quality of the random suggestions that it gives you.

Here’s a tip that might not occur to you when you choose your business name-make sure that the name is available as a domain name (a URL) exactly how you will spell it, before you commit to the name.

Why is this so important? You have to realize that in the future people will find your business not through some physical directory like the Yellow Pages, but through search engines. Like it or not you will have to make it as easy as possible for search engine robots to find you. This means you will have to construct your online presence, i.e. your website, with at least some search engine optimization in mind.

The fact is that one of the most important things that search engines take into account when assessing your website is its URL. The reasoning behind this makes sense: for a website called “fine California wines” search engines take as a given that the site will be about that three-word phrase as much or more than anything else under the sun.

It behooves you to take advantage of this simple fact in a way that search engines view your online business, to give yourself some free SEO help. Catchy business names are one thing, but do make sure yours is search engine friendly as well.
